Please keep in mind inexpensive 'novelty lighters' aren't supposed to have $200 tolerances and performance. They're 'novelties', they're supposed to be 'cool' not high quality. 

Some pcs may need oiled/adjusted straight out of the package, but at this price point that's pretty much expected. After cycling the blade several times and working in the oil, that should improve blade action as well as engagement of the plunge lock when closing. Yes, firm pressure is required to ensure the lock engages fully... but that's what the little notch on the back of the blade is there for (either way, if the safety gets moved from pressure in your pocket, the same risk is still present). That is just the nature of this type of product.
Also keep in mind ANY side auto with stored energy is potentially dangerous to have in your pocket (with or without a physical safety, there is always a risk).
