Leaf-Spring opening. Some pieces are quite strong, but some may need to be held firmly to lock. A leaf-spring uses stored potential energy, like a grass-hopper. Kicking against the sturdy ground, it can jump very high.... but kicking in the air, doesn't work too well. This same concept applies... brace the bottom of the handle against your palm with a firm grip. This provides a base for the spring to kick against. 

PRO TIP: Rotate your wrist to a palm-up position, and even a weaker spring will still lock when held properly.

This knife is more of a collectors item DO NOT CARRY!!!!for self defense. My first impressions are vague. It feels stiff and well made however few times it has missed fired from not enough spring tension which i will try to make adjustments. I typically carry my cheap Chinese AKC Stiletto for EDC as it fires hard and has been reliable for the past 5 years and was the very first switchblade I ever bought. Almost had to use it once in a self defense situation but that’s a different story I will not get into. If you know anything about Stilleto Switchblades they require some minor modifications out of the box to work properly unless you get extremely lucky. But my overall impression of this particular Swing Guard is it’s very tight and stiff and has tight blade lockup. Little to no play in the guards but that could change over time with use. Other then the thick leaf spring with not enough tension due to this knife being very tight I’d have to give this a 3 star rating.

Tight and stiff is a good thing, as it will loosen a tad as it gets 'broke in'from regular use. It's sort of a catch 22 where if it's not tight, then it'll be a little loose and wobbly with more blade play. If you want to reduce the tightness, grip tightly and purposly bend the blade back and forth to loosen the rivet and it'll fire a little faster. I would recommend not to though (as tightness is a good thing) and simply adjust the way you're holding it. Make sure to brace the bottom of the handle tightly against your palm (giving a sturdy base for the spring to kick against) and rotate your wrist to a palm up position. It's all in the way you hold it.... Thank you for the reveiw!
